CASILS, Morayfield SHS and Caboolture Sports Club – A Great Adopt A School Initiative.
When Ray McLeod, Human Resources Manager of Caboolture Sports Club approached Gwen Verdun, Program Manager of CASILS, looking for an opportunity to work with Morayfield State High School, to encourage students to look at the Club as a potential employer, the Adopt a School Initiative, part of the Career Advice Australia initiative, was the logical way to go.
CASILS approached Vicki, HOD of Hospitality Studies at Morayfield SHS and organised a meeting between Ray, Casils and Vicki to see how they could work together.
Ray offered to arrange a week of training, utilising the training services of Clubs Australia, which would result in a Statement of Attainment in five modules of the Hospitality Operations Cert 1, including the RSA.
Ray gathered his resources, including training rooms, bar requisites and trainers, Vicki gathered 15 very keen Year 11 and 12 students and CASILS organised the necessary paperwork for insurances and placement details and subsidised part of the course costs, culminating in a graduation ceremony where students, proudly watched by parents, received their certificates and demonstrated their new bar skills.
Ray said “It has been a great week. The 15 students have turned up on time every day and presented themselves in a professional manner. A big thank you to Gwen and Kae (CASILS) for their support (both financial and administration), Vicki (Morayfield State High School) Karen, Melissa and Traci from Club Training Australia and Holly at the Lakes Club, and also the Rugby Club for allowing us 2 days of training at their venue. And thank you to the Caboolture Sports Club for the donation of the venue and beverages.”
The students all completed 2 shifts of unpaid work experience following the course and it is anticipated that many of them will be offered employment opportunities, once the Sports Club has completed their extensive renovations in November.
